Former Harford County Sheriff R. Thomas Golding Endorses Sheriff Jeff Gahler for Re-Election

A statement from one of Harford County’s own — after more than three decades of service in the badge.

As someone who proudly served the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for 33 years, including my time as Sheriff, I have seen firsthand what true leadership looks like. Sheriff Jeff Gahler embodies it. His record is not just good — it is exceptional. He has strengthened every facet of the Sheriff’s Office, stood firmly behind the men and women who wear the badge, and led this agency through both triumph and tragedy with unwavering resolve.

At a time when law enforcement across our nation has been under relentless attack from political forces in Annapolis and Washington, Sheriff Gahler has never backed down. He has been a steadfast defender of public safety, the Constitution, and the deputies who risk their lives every day. While others have tried to weaken the role of law enforcement, he has fought — boldly and unapologetically — to protect it.

The Sheriff of Harford County must operate in two worlds: professional and political. The professional side demands competence, integrity, and a commitment to justice. The political side requires the courage to stand up to policies that threaten the safety of our communities. Sheriff Gahler understands this balance better than anyone I have served with. He knows when to speak out, when to push back, and when to focus solely on the mission of protecting Harford County families.

Throughout the 252-year history of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, many have worn the badge with honor. Sheriff Gahler stands proudly among the best of them. His leadership has strengthened the Agency, supported its personnel, and upheld the values that define our profession.

It is with complete confidence and deep respect that I offer my full endorsement of Sheriff Jeff Gahler for re-election. I have no doubt he will continue to choose what is professionally right over what is politically convenient — every single time.
